BioWelcome to Dark Monday! No, it's not goth or depressing or anything like that. D.M. is (shortly to be) a webcomic/doodle space about my experiences working as a costume intern in a professional theater. On the subject of misleading titles, I'll warn you now that this comic may delve into some industry specialized jargon and/or concepts. Why? Sometimes it's because I'm lazy. Sometimes it's because I didn't get it either and that's why it was funny. Maybe through this comic I can pass along some of the tricks I'm learning. See? It's Educational.
Lesson one: A theater employing union workers is "dark" at least one day a week. This means there are no shows going on and everyone gets to go home and sleep for 27 hours. At the theater I'm at now (and at many other equity theaters across the nation) Mondays are dark. Of course... there's nothing stopping them from booking six shows in the three days proceeding said day off, so it all evens out.
All that aside, I want to say right from the start that I love my job. I may poke fun at it; I might even complain sometimes, but I realize how amazing this opportunity is and so should you I want to share the excitement (and often absurdity) as much as I can.
